TSS REDUCTION REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

An existing coal mining operation required critical assistance in maintaining TSS reduction regulatory compliance limits. At this site, surface water is collected and treated to meet strict environmental standards before being released into a fish-bearing receiving stream. Ensuring that the water quality adheres to these standards is essential for both regulatory adherence and environmental protection.

The coal mining operation faced significant challenges in managing Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in its surface water. Maintaining TSS Reduction Regulatory Compliance was vital to avoid environmental damage and meet regulatory requirements. The operation needed a solution that could effectively reduce TSS, adapt to varying flow conditions, and handle peak flow events while remaining cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Clearflow was entrusted with this important task. We implemented our patented Clearflow Flocculant Gel blocks , strategically placing them in situ to provide a passive flocculation treatment upstream of the existing water management ponds. These gel blocks were specifically designed to enhance the process of colloidal sedimentation during low to medium flow conditions, where sediment-laden water with high TSS flows over a duplex block design. For peak flow events, a Clearflow liquid flocculant dosing station was integrated to ensure that the TSS reduction treatment remained effective and compliant with regulatory limits.
